Nanaimo Boom Lift License - Only completely licensed individuals should operate an aerial boom lift. A License is required for any individual who operates or works on an aerial boom lift.

When using a boom lift, there are a few basic safety regulations that apply to all boom lifts. Safety of the worker is a top priority whilst they are working inside the basket. The worker must always wear a body harness and lanyard, attaching it to the basket or boom. Never tie off to an adjacent pole, structure, or equipment. Workers must stand on the floor of the basket, and never climb or sit on the basket edge. The load restrictions of the manufacturer should be followed.

Lift operators should be certified to operate an aerial lift. The manufacturer's manual should be kept in the lift and the operator should be familiar with all aspects of that specific unit. Operators are responsible for making sure that safety procedures are followed in the operation of the lift. A daily test of lift controls should be carried out. Position outriggers and set brakes (if they are utilized) on pads or a stable surface. If working on a slope, make use of wheel chocks.

The aerial lift vehicle must never be moved whilst a worker is inside the basket of an elevated boom, unless they are using machinery that are specifically designed for this. Articulating boom and extensible boom platforms utilized as employees carriers should have plainly marked, accessible, upper controls. Except for in emergency conditions, lower controls must not be used to override upper controls unless the individual in the lift gives authorization.

While working from an aerial lift, do not wear tree or pole climbers.

Ensure that the booms are carefully inspected, that the equipment is correctly cradled and the outriggers are in the stowed position prior to moving.
When operating a boom lift next to power lines, ensure the lines are di-electrically tested according to local rules.
